What does a VA do?

Virtual Assistants, if only basing on the name, does not always mean administrative or secretarial work.
In contrast with a Freelancer, a VA is more of a business associate (or even possibly a partner) of a business client. The relationship of a client and VA is not a boss to employee; it is of a business to business partnership -- achieving the same goal of a profitable outcome (niche-dependent).

If one is seriously pursuing the VA path :) I'm inviting you to attend the next Jomar Hilario Virtual Assistant Seminar on November 29, 2010.

Learn from the simplicity of life

In this fast-paced world we now live in today, we always find ourselves rushing from one point to another.
We sometimes forget the simple things in life -- or rather than forget, we neglect or simply ignore -- the small events, that we should be grateful for...

The casual showers in the early morning.

The chirping of the birds perched on the windowsill.
The cool breeze on a warm afternoon.

The lulling sounds of cicadas in the evening.

From these simple things, we learn the value time.

Rushing in and out makes you miss out on the events and celebrations in life.
Rushing does not make extra time.

Breath deeply. Think seriously.

Remember, that time is a resource in itself and cannot be stretched...

Caught up in life

Being caught up with the business (or busy-ness) of life as a a VA, an entrepreneur and  a parent can some days overwhelm you, that by the end of the day, one asks, "Where did the day go?"

Here is a simple tip, that I received from one of my learning group, Tiffany Baron (from Six Minutes To Success). It is so simple, you would wonder...

USE THE POWER OF A LIST

One must not underestimate the power of a list in managing each day (week, month and so on).
So, keep handy a small notebook or pad paper and a pen or pencil.

If you prefer to go high-tech, use the notes function of your mobile phone or similar device -- you can even set an alarm, if you want.
Personally, I prefer the pad & paper list -- call me old school, but it gives me such a gratification when I check out, literally, placing a check-mark on, each task item that I complete.

Checking out the list, would give you such a feeling of achievement.
Remember, that the purpose of the list is to guide one to what needs to be done at a particular point in time -- put it into immediate practice and make it a habit.

Finally, a quote from Bob Proctor, Simply put, listing something does not mean accomplishing it -- you need to act "Doing at once what needs to be done, increases the probability of success."NOW with what deems important in the now. An anti-procrastination statement indeed! :)

The five tool assignment (fta)

Being a Virtual Assistant is quite a challenging career than at first anticipated; after attending the VA Seminar conducted by Jomar Hilario, I am now engaged in meeting the pre-requisites to graduate from his course.
Right now, I am working on the assignments while balancing other going-ons in life...

Virtual Assistants require one to know a lot of tools -- not just know what, but know how to use!
I have seen and tried a lot of these helpful technologies (some of which I did not even know existed before) and can say that -- human minds knows no limits!
There are a lot out there and from these tools, I picked out five that I would say I would use to maximize while in the VA career path.
  • Time loggers online
  • Invoice generating tools
  • Screen capture tools
  • Slides & photo presenters
  • File sharing
    and a whole lot more...
Watch out for more updates :)

What is a VA?

VA stands for Virtual Assistant. A coined term to denote an internet worker providing professional services to supply various requirement of different industry clients.

Quoting my internet mentor, Jomar Hilario on the definition of a Virtual Assistant:
A Virtual Assistant (VA) is someone who is like a "freelancer" of old; with slight differences...

The definition from wikipedia is:
A virtual assistant (typically abbreviated to VA, also called a virtual office assistant) is an entrepreneur who provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients from a home office.
